Joeli Benson

Graduate Student Intern, Supervised by Dr. West

Joeli Benson earned her Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Dallas Baptist University and is currently pursuing her Master of Arts in Professional Counseling at Dallas Baptist University. She is beginning her practicum training and is excited to continue developing the knowledge and skills needed to support children and families through the counseling process.
As a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT), Joeli works with children ages 4 to 8 diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder, providing Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy to help them build communication, social, behavioral, and daily living skills. This experience has strengthened her passion for working with children while deepening her understanding of child development, behavior, and the importance of meeting each child with patience, empathy, and encouragement.
Joeli is passionate about creating a safe, accepting, and nonjudgmental environment where children and their families feel supported and understood. Her counseling approach is primarily rooted in person-centered and child-centered principles, emphasizing the importance of building trusting relationships and recognizing the unique strengths and potential within every individual. She believes each child deserves the opportunity to grow, heal, and become the best version of themselves, and she considers it a privilege to walk alongside families during that journey.
Outside of counseling, Joeli enjoys spending time with family and friends, going on walks, trying new coffee shops, Pilates, and staying active.
